Candlelit Supper

Candlelit Supper at St John the Baptist, Hawkchurch by Roz Fox

In a continuing effort to raise funds for a toilet and servery, a Candlelit Supper was held in the Church on Saturday 30th November. The event, conceived and organised by Jean Ransford, was a great success.  A massive cleaning operation had taken place, including the clerestory roof which had not been touched for many years!

The church was bathed in soft candlelight and the recently restored West Window was floodlit, producing a magical effect. Sixty-four tickets were sold and the church was cleverly adapted so that people could sit in the pews with tables in front or to the side.

Delicious canapes were served on arrival and the main course consisted of various casseroles, including beef, chicken and pork. These were served with couscous and bread. The dessert was a highly calorific but most delicious apple cake. Wine was available at £2.50 a glass or £12 a bottle and there was a raffle.

In total the event raised £961. A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the cleaning, catering and organisation and to all those who attended.

The next fundraising even to take place will be the Big Breakfast on Saturday January 25th 2020.   This will be a joint event for the Air Ambulance Night Landing Site and the Church servery and toilet. It will be held in the Village Hall.
