After a dip in attendance in October, last month’s extraordinary tale of wartime derring-do, ‘Operation Mincemeat’, fared much better – many thanks to all of you who were able to attend despite another wet and windy evening.
Our last presentation before Christmas is on Monday 5th December and is a light-hearted choice to get you into the festive spirit. In association with Devon Moviola, we proudly present ‘Good Luck to You, Leo Grande‘ (97 mins, Cert. 15 – contains scenes of a sexual nature and some strong language).
In this often hilarious yet compassionate drama from screenwriter Katy Brand and director Sophie Hyde, Nancy Stokes (double Oscar-winner Emma Thompson) is a widowed schoolteacher in her mid-fifties. Having experienced an unfulfilled sex life – her marriage, she says, was “not so much a furnace of passion that burned out, as the bottom drawer of an Aga” – she decides that it’s time to see what she’s been missing, so she hires the services of a much younger male escort, Leo Grande, played by Daryl McCormack (Peaky Blinders).Yes, it’s all about sex, but there is much more. The film also deals with aging, body image and self-empowerment from a female perspective – all-in-all, it’s a lovely and sweet film that is not to be missed.
Doors open 6.30pm, film starts 7.00pm at Hawkchurch Village Hall, EX13 5XD. Ticket reservations £6 from csma95@gmail.com or leave a message on 01297 678176 (socially-distanced seating available if booked in advance) or pay at the door. New improved projection – give us a try if you haven’t been for a while – and subtitles for those who find them helpful. Wine, home-made cake and other delicious festive refreshments will be available – why not come along early and meet up with friends before the performance?
Penny, Jacky, Paul and I hope to see you at the village hall and wish you all the very best for the festive season and 2023.
Our next presentation will be on Monday 9th January (film tbc).
