Hawkchurch Film Nights by Chris Andrews
Perishing wind and snow flurries replaced December’s Biblical rain for last month’s challenging weather conditions to accompany our film, ‘A Haunting in Venice’. Many thanks to the hardy few who braved the elements to attend. I think it’s fairly safe to say that it wasn’t as good as ‘Oppenheimer’, but as usual I failed to spot whodunnit, so job done.
Higher hopes for this month’s selection. On Monday 5th February, in association with Moviola.org, we proudly present ‘The Great Escaper’ (96 mins, Cert. 12 – infrequent strong language, moderate sex references). Michael Caine and Glenda Jackson (in her final role) star in this poignant drama, based on the true story of a WWII veteran who secretly leaves his care home to cross the Channel and attend the 70th Anniversary of the D-Day Landings.
Doors open 6.30pm, film starts 7.00pm at Hawkchurch Village Hall, EX13 5XD. Ticket reservations £5.50 from firstname.lastname@example.org or leave a message on 01297 678176 (socially-distanced seating available if reserved in advance); unreserved tickets also available for £5.50 from Hawkchurch Community Shop or £6.00 on the door (cash only). We always hope to provide subtitles for the hard-of-hearing, but this is dependent on our suppliers at the film distribution company – please check with me on the day of the screening if you’d like confirmation. Home-made cake, teas, coffees and other yummy refreshments available.
Penny, Helen, Trevor and I look forward to seeing you at the village hall.
