Hawkchurch Film Nights January 2020

Latest Film

Happy New Year to you all – I hope you had a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas.

Last month’s film ‘Yesterday’ was very warmly received by the audience – understandably given the winning performances, strong direction and classic soundtrack.  Of course it was complete hokum, but the feelgood factor more than made up for it.  A hit!  Glad that patrons enjoyed the festive refreshments too.

This month’s screening is on Monday 6th January : ‘Judy’ (12A), starring Renee Zellweger (‘Bridget Jones’, ‘Chicago’) in an bravura performance (already nominated for a Golden Globe) as the fading screen and stage legend Judy Garland, who arrives in London to perform a series of concerts at the Talk of the Town in 1969.  The film poignantly depicts her struggles both at the start and the twilight of her career, with MGM (the studio which controlled her life), a string of failed marriages, money problems and increasing dependence on booze and pills.  As usual, doors at the Village Hall open at 7pm with the film starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 in advance from Hawkchurch Community Shop or £6 on the door.

All the best for 2020
