June Film Night

Latest Film

Given the atrocious weather, the fact that it was at the end of a bank holiday weekend and the possibly more challenging content of the film, it was perhaps unsurprising that our audience numbers flagged a little for ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’ compared to other films we’ve shown this year, despite its success at the Oscars (it won 7).  It was wildly inventive and brilliantly acted, with astonishing visuals, and would almost certainly reward repeat viewings, but I suspect that for some of our audience, once was more than enough!  Definitely worth trying something different occasionally, though. Many thanks to everyone who braved such a foul evening to support us.

We’re on safer ground with this month’s film, without a doubt.  On Monday 5th June, in association with Devon Moviola and in celebration of the 60th anniversary of its original release, we are delighted to have the opportunity to screen ‘Charade‘ (109 mins, Cert. PG), the timeless romantic thriller, set in Paris and starring the luminous pairing of Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn.  Strong support from Walter Matthau and James Coburn, directed by Stanley Donen (‘Singin’ in the Rain’, ‘On the Town’), and with a score by Henry Mancini (‘The Pink Panther’), this is a Technicolor treat, and a great way to bring the curtain down on our 2022-23 season and kick off the summer.

Huge thanks to Trevor Salway-Roberts, who designed and constructed our new advertising boards, which you can see at the village hall on the day of the screening.  The man is a true artisan!
