May Film Night

Latest Film

Last month’s film ‘Pig’ was definitely an acquired taste and divided our audience – I came to it expecting some sort of revenge thriller, but it turned into quite a moving meditation on loss.  Certainly not a feel-good movie, though, and it’s high time we had one of those, so in association with Devon Moviola, on Monday 9th May, we proudly present ‘West Side Story’ (156 mins, Cert. 12 – moderate violence, discrimination, sexual threat, implied strong language).  Steven Spielberg directs this exuberant re-make of the classic 1961 musical drama, based on ‘Romeo and Juliet’.  Set in 1950s New York City, a Puerto Rican teenager falls for the former leader of a local gang.  Nominated for 7 Oscars and starring Ansel Elgort, Rachel Zegler, Ariana DeBose (who won Best Supporting Actress), David Alvarez and Rita Moreno.

New regular start time 7.00pm (doors 6.30pm) at Hawkchurch Village Hall, EX13 5XD.  Tickets £5 from csma95@gmail.com or 01297 678176 (socially-distanced seating available if booked in advance), or pay at the door.  Refreshments available.

Thanks very much to Trevor Salway-Roberts for installing two blackout blinds at the back of the auditorium to help us keep it dark during the lighter evenings.
Penny, Jacky, Paul and I look forward to seeing you.
