Hawkchurch History Society – June Outing 2024

June 12 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

HHS Annual Day Out

Dorchester Museum & Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre

‘The Hardy Room’ – A recreation of Thomas Hardy’s study from his home at Max Gate on Dorchester’s outskirts; his desk, personal belongings, family portraits, etc.
The chairman of the ‘Thomas Hardy Society’ has offered us a short talk on Thomas Hardy, and a guided tour of the Museum’s exhibits, to help us to discover the life and work of Dorset’s famous novelist and poet (1840-1928) and dive into key themes of his personal and professional life, and his writings.

‘Ivy House’, Groves Nursery, Bridport is to provide us with a buffet lunch (included in cost)

‘Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre’ – Alison Ferris, who gave us a talk in the spring of 2023, will give us a short talk on the 2023 ‘find’  – the giant skull of a pliosaur (Attenborough’s Giant Sea Monster) – and a guided tour of the Centre to show us the more interesting fossils and finds that she described in her talk; including the newly displayed Ichthyosaur (Attenborough’s Sea Dragon) and ‘Raffle’ the Plesiosaur, a unique three-dimensional specimen (2 million year fossil) hanging above.

NB:  Limited numbers, so early booking essential.

All welcome – members & non-members alike.
