Welcome to Hawkchurch Film Nights

October Film Night
The latter scenes of last month’s film ‘Allelujah’ were unexpected and shocking, given recent real-life events in the news, and as organiser I should have gone to more trouble to find out about the subject matter and warned people beforehand. My sincere apologies to any of our audience who were upset by the film. Fortunately those I spoke to and heard from afterwards were grateful to have seen it and regarded it as a paean to our wonderful NHS.
Hopefully this month’s film will prove to be less contentious. On Monday 2nd October, in association with Devon Moviola, we proudly present ‘The Unlikely Pilgrimage of Harold Fry‘ (104 mins, Cert. 12 – infrequent strong language, drug misuse, suicide, moderate sex references). Jim Broadbent and Penelope Wilton star in this gentle, poignant and uplifting drama in which a retired brewery manager impulsively decides to walk across the country to visit his ill friend.
Doors open 6.30pm, film starts 7.00pm at Hawkchurch Village Hall, EX13 5XD. Ticket reservations £5.50 from csma95@gmail.com or leave a message on 01297 678176 (socially-distanced seating available if reserved in advance); tickets also available for £5.50 from Hawkchurch Community Shop or £6.00 on the door (cash only). Subtitles for the hard-of-hearing provided when supplied by the film distributors. Home-made cake and other delicious refreshments available.
Thanks very much to Peter Runeckles who kindly donated an additional home-made cake last month.
As promised last month, we have reviewed the feedback from our patrons as to whether there is still demand for socially-distanced seating at our screenings and will continue to provide this option for those of our patrons who prefer it.
Next month’s film will be on Mon 6th November. It will be either ‘Oppenheimer’ or ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It’, depending on the release date of the former, which hasn’t yet been confirmed. More info next month.
Penny, Jacky, Paul and I look forward to seeing you at the village hall.
