Play park update

The installation of the climbing frame has gone to plan (see below) but there is still work to do to make the play park safe, add the new play panels which the Parish Council has purchased, and do some further remedial work. We expect the play park to be closed for perhaps a week. A lot depends on the weather and volunteers time to do the work.

Well done so far everyone who has had a hand in making this happen!

Updated 2nd May 2024

Following on from the public consultation which was carried out some months ago, Hawkchurch Parish Council and Village Hall Committee have been working with East Devon District Council in the hope of obtaining funds to provide some upgrades to the children’s play area at the Hall.

The results of the consultation were incredibly helpful, and having taken the views of children in the locality into consideration, several quotes for various pieces of equipment have been obtained.

Trying to find something suitable which can be accommodated safely within the site and which is also within the budget has not been an easy task.

While inspections were carried out, it was noted that the existing timber swing set was in a poor state and in need of urgent repair or removal.

The decision has therefore been made to replace this set with a new climbing structure with suitable surfacing.

The Village Hall committee shall be covering the cost of upgrading the existing metal swing set to accommodate 1 x cradle swing and 1 x standard swing, and alongside the above, the Parish Council members have voted in favour of covering the cost of purchasing 3 x play panels for installation – 1 x tic tac toe, 1 x role play shop and 1 x wobbly mirror.

The Village Hall Committee are also considering the provision of a picnic bench on site as requested by many, however, further fundraising may need to be carried out in order for this to be implemented.

It is anticipated that the structural works will be carried out on site during the week commencing 22nd April 2024.

This will ensure that children are able to benefit from these adaptations over the summer months.

We hope that these changes will enhance this area, and offer more enjoyment for all, but continue to request that anyone using the park respects the equipment and area at all times.

Kind Regards,

Hawkchurch Parish Council and Hawkchurch Village Hall Committee
