Hawkchurch Community Shop

Our community shop has been running since May 2014 and is going from strength to strength. It was set up and has been run entirely by volunteers, servicing the needs of the local community and visitors to the area. Recently we moved premises – to a brand new store just a few feet away from the old cabin! You can find us on the opposite side to the church, on the right of the village hall…. follow the signs!

Hawkchurch Community Shop is proud to provide a service in a rural area for the local community and visitors to the area. Customers can shop locally and reduce their carbon footprint at the same time. We receive many positive comments about the range of goods available and for the friendly and helpful service that the shop provides.

Greetings, Shoppers:

We now have a deck behind the Shop and, in the autumn, we will be planting a traditional countryside hedge at the base of it. We have bought our first bench for customers to use to enjoy their take-out coffee, tea, soft drinks, and ice-creams, (no alcohol consumption allowed). Over the summer we will monitor how much the bench area is being used and if it proves to be popular, we will purchase more seating.

A big thank you to local gardeners who have been donating their spare veggie plants.  They are located by the Shop entrance and all sales will be for the Shop funds.

We are keeping a careful eye on the next government signpost of 19 July. With that in mind, our volunteers have been consulted for their opinion and we are all awaiting the next steps forward out of lockdown and the implications for us at the Shop. In the event of any changes being made, we will make sure that there are notices on display at the Shop and we will post on the Hawkchurch webpage and on social media.

We are working hard on being able to go back to full time opening.

But to do that we will need more volunteers. Chris Andrews is busy doing the number crunching to see if it is possible from our existing volunteer pool.

More information about how to become a volunteer, either as a regular or an occasional, from Chris Andrews 678-176 or our volunteers page

Covid was a challenge for all of us but judging by the positive response from customers, your Shop is a safe environment for us all to shop and work in. Plus, we have expanded the stock considerably.

Some good news. Two customers at a time are now allowed inside the Shop, (a young child accompanied by an adult from the same household is additionally permitted), with all the health and safety rules in place-hand sanitizer, masks etc.

For those of you who may feel reluctant to come inside the Shop, we will keep the facility for you to place your order and pay from outside.

We have a wide range of stock, including:

  • grocery items
  • freezer produce
  • milk and chiller produce
