Hawkchurch Community Shop

Official Opening of the New Community Shop

On Saturday 11 January 2020 we celebrated the official opening of our brand new premises. It’s on the same site as our old home on land owned by Derek and Sue Cowling, who so generously allowed us to site it there.

The Committee were honoured that Derek and Sue performed the opening ceremony and cut the ribbon.

The community of Hawkchurch turned out in force to celebrate and show their support and it was a fabulous success. At one point it felt like a Guinness Book of Records attempt to fit as many people into the new shop as possible!

We all had a jolly good time and partook of the nibbles, prosecco and orange juice.  We even managed to get coverage from BBC South West Spotlight and BBC Radio Devon.

It was sheer serendipity that the adult raffle hamper was won by Mike Pearce who was one of the founding members of our Committee in 2012 and worked so hard in our team until he and his wife, Kate, moved to Sidmouth.  The same fairy was waving its wand when the children’s hamper was won by Jessica Howard, a member of the Howard family who used to supply us with Chadacres Farm eggs.

We’ve also received grants to install Solar Panels from our Parish Council, East Devon District Council and Devon County Council.

And as if that isn’t enough, we have plans to create a decking area for you to meet up in the warmer weather and enjoy a cuppa or a coffee or an ice cream or two.

So, yet again, it’s a question of watch this space.
